From pcpro.co.uk:
“You may remember that, some time ago, I blogged about an interesting little computer curio called the Space Cube. Quite simply, it’s one of the smallest PCs in the world, with each side measuring around 2 inches square. I wrote that it looked cool, ran on a 300MHz processor and that it probably wouldn’t be sold outside of Japan, if at all.
Well, now, we’ve actually gone and got hold of one - the only Space Cube in the UK that’s running Linux, in fact. In the flesh it’s even more impressive than in pictures, inspiring awe and provoking disbelieving reactions across the PC Pro office. It’s actually quite difficult to comprehend just how small the PC is so, for your delectation, we’ve been taking pictures of the Space Cube next to some everyday objects.”

“The parliament of the predominantly Catholic country of Croatia is urging its citizens to reclaim Sunday as a day for celebrating the Eucharist, for family, and for rest.
The Croatian parliament passed a law yesterday requiring most businesses to close on Sundays. The law does, however, allow Sunday shopping during the summer tourist season and Christmas holidays.
The new law also allows stores in hospitals as well as those in gas, bus and train stations to open on Sundays year-round. Bakeries, newsstands and flower shops are also exempt from the ban.”

From timesfreepress.com:
“It’s not Christmas time or the day after Thanksgiving, but the crowds at Hamilton Place mall Sunday were celebrating the event frugal shoppers have been waiting for all summer: the tax-free holiday.
And with parking lots packed and stores selling out of popular items, the holiday gave store managers a lot to celebrate, too.”

From news.yahoo.com:
“Consumer spending, after adjusting for inflation, fell in June as shoppers were hit with the biggest increase in prices in nearly three decades.
The Commerce Department reported Monday that consumer spending dipped by 0.2 percent in June, after removing the effects of higher prices, the poorest showing since a similar drop in February. The higher prices reflected a big surge in gasoline costs and helped to drive an inflation gauge tied to consumer spending up by 0.8 percent in June, the biggest increase since a 1 percent rise in February 1981.”

“The weather is keeping most people in their cars, but this will be the summer of the scooter if inquiries are anything to go by, dealers here say.
“Gisborne is a ‘five-minute town’ -you can get anywhere in five minutes, and a scooter will do 60 to 70 kilometres a litre.
“One of our customers works next to us in Hammer Hardware, and lives by the hospital. She spends eight dollars a month on fuel - perhaps nine dollars with the price rises.”"

“Excess consumption is practically an American religion. But as anyone with a filled-to-the-gills closet knows, the things we accumulate can become oppressive. With all this stuff piling up and never quite getting put away, we’re no longer huddled masses yearning to breathe free; we’re huddled masses yearning to free up space on a countertop. Which is why people are so intrigued by the 100 Thing Challenge, a grass-roots movement in which otherwise seemingly normal folks are pledging to whittle down their possessions to a mere 100 items.”

“Josh Freed, a Montreal journalist and admitted slob, doesn’t deny his documentary about being messy is somewhat self-serving.
After all, “My Messy Life,” an hour-long film airing Saturday, is an impassioned defence of a cluttered life and an attempt to prove that having a messed-up desk does not a messed-up person make. “
